Group 1: Captured Moods

Lighted live steam
The “King” of the powering modes is live steam. Just the smell, a mixture of alcohol, oil, and hot steam, can be addictive. Group members, even over 70 years old, lie on their stomachs on the carpet and close to the track, just to enjoy the smell as the steam locomotive rolls by. This is crazy! We light the locomotive and the cars with a contact under a bogie that contacts the current rail.

Carette
Seen here is a rare Gauge 1 live steam locomotive by Carette. The movement of the connecting rods is fascinating and the flames can be seen behind the fire grate. The locomotive is very robust and pulls three beautiful Marklin coaches that were originally exported exclusively to the UK and sold by Gamage’s.

Railcar
Small but nice! An 0 gauge railcar, the Marklin TW 12970 produced in 1932, moves silently through the evening’s landscape. The railcar has been lengthened by the addition of two middle sections, allowing it to nicely snake through the turnouts.

International blue
A night train to Geneva - Lausanne waiting on the platform. The gauge 1 train has been created with five Marklin coaches which are very rare in this international color scheme.

Cream croc
A dream in cream; a 1 gauge “Crocodile”. It is a delight to see this locomotive on the tracks.
